What is a Division?
A Division is an administrative province
under the authority of the Sarawak State Government. A division is divided
to smaller regions called districts and sub-districts. Presently, Sarawak
has 11 administrative divisions, 31 districts and 28 sub-districts.

Who is the Resident?
The Resident is a chief administrative officer appointed by the Sarawak
State Government to head the administration of a division. The Resident
is assisted by the District Officer at the district level and Administrative
Officer at the sub-district level.

When was Kapit elevated as a division?
Kapit was elevated as the 7th Division
on 2nd April 1973.

Where is the Residents Office located?
The Residents Office is located
at the first floor of the State Office Building, Penghulu
Nyanggau Road.

What are the main functions of the Residents
Office?
Its main functions are Implementation & Monitoring
of Development Projects, Divisional Administration,
Institutional Management, Issuance / Approval of Licenses,
Secretariat, and Statutory Matters.

are the licenses issued or approved by the Resident's
Office?
The Residents Office issues three main licenses : Public Subscription
License, Cock-Fighting License and Tourist Permit to Baleh/Belaga. Besides,
the Resident’s Office also approves two marriage licenses namely
Express Marriage License and Marriage License For Underage Girls.

What is a Public Subscription License?
The Public Subscription License is issued under the provision of Public
Collection Ordinance 1996 which permits the holders to collect donations
or raise funds from the public.

What is a Cock-Fighting License?
The Cock-Fighting License is issued under the provision of The Prevention
of Cruelty to Animals (Cock-Fighting) (Amendment) Rules 1996 under The
Prevention of Cruelty to Animals Ordinance 1962 which permits the holders
to host a cock-fight.

What is a Tourist Permit?
The Tourist Permit is issued under
the provision of Section 2(b) Prohibited Areas (Cap 18(1958))
Ordinance that allows foreign tourists to visit Baleh and
Belaga areas in the Kapit Division.

What is Statutory Declaration?
Statutory Declaration is a procedure
used to make solemn declaration consciently believing that
the information to be declared to be true and by virtue
of the provisions of the Statutory Declaration Act, 1960.

What is Certification of Documents?
Certification of documents is done to
certify the documents as true copies. Documents can be certified
by all senior officers at the Resident’s
Office and district offices.

What is Express Marriage License?
Express Marriage License is issued
under the provision of Section 21(1) Law Reform Act (Marriage
and Divorce) 1976 which allows applicants to get a marriage
license without notices.

What is Marriage License For Underage Girls?
Marriage
License For Underage Girls is issued under the provision
of Section 21(2) Law Reform Act (Marriage and Divorce) 1976
which permits applicants who are under 18 but had achieved
16 years old to get a marriage license.

Is the Resident's Office certified as a MS ISO holder?
Yes.
The Resident's Office of Kapit Division has been awarded
the MS ISO 9002 : 1994 certification by Malaysian Administrative
Modernisation and Management Planning Unit (MAMPU), Prime
Minister's Department for its quality and excellent services.
